Forgive Yourself

Learning to forgive yourself is often harder to do than forgiving others. 

In order to forgive yourself and move forward there are some key steps that one must take.

Acknowledgement.

Start by acknowledging the guilt or the shame that you are feeling.  If you’ve wronged someone or maybe you’ve done something, you’re not exactly proud of. (We’ve all been there!)

Accept the role you played in the situation.

Accept responsibility for what you’ve done.  Never try to make excuses for your behavior or blame others for decisions that you’ve made.  Mess ups can only be cleaned up when we take responsibility for our actions.

Learn from this experience. 

There’s a lesson to be learned in everything that we experience in life.  It’s important that we understand this lesson in order to forgive ourselves.  This will allow us to stop all the negative talk, or feelings that we have towards ourselves and others.

The best way to forgive yourself is to change your thinking.  When old thoughts or feelings try to creep back in, replace it with positive affirmations or thoughts. 

We must learn to:

Pick up the pieces

Love ourselves again

Change our actions
